When you get to the age where you receive senior discounts or are constantly finding your mailbox full of retirement cruise ads, it may feel like your days in the business world are over. Seniors have made it past their time in the work force and are free to relax and spend their days as they see fit. However, that doesn’t mean that running your own business is out of the question. With the advent of jobs that can be done from home, such as blogging, now people of all ages have the opportunity to cash in on some of the most popular business ideas and have some fun at the same time. Before you write off starting a blog, or running any kind of small business, after retirement, take a moment to consider all the ways you just may be ahead of your younger competitors;

1. Life experience that no one else has.

The reason any blogger becomes popular is because they have found a way to offer a unique perspective on a particular topic. From gossip chatter to financial advice, the bloggers who succeed are able to find their own voice and provide information in a way that other bloggers do not. That’s why senior citizens can make for some of the best bloggers. Seniors are able to look at the world from the lens of a person who has been around the block and seen a thing or two. There are probably tons of things that have changed and tons of things that have stayed exactly the same. Finding a way to target a particular niche by writing from a perspective that no one else has access to is an excellent business model.

2. More time to dedicate to writing.

The majority of senior citizens are retired. And, while many have plenty to fill their hours, it is always an added luxury to be able to create your own schedule and determine how you would most like to spend your time. Because so many younger people tend to avoid going ahead and starting something like a blog or a small business due to other responsibilities, there is no reason not to capitalize on the freedom of retirement and spend it doing something that could bring in some extra cash. The additional time that you can dedicate, compared to other working bloggers out there, will also give you the opportunity to make your blog that much better than the rest.

3. The freedom to say what you want.

When you are still active in the work force, even if you’re self-employed, you still need to be careful what you say and who you talk about. Senior citizens, however, have the opportunity to view the professional world from afar, if they so choose. This means that they don’t have to worry about business connections, damaging relationships or hurting feelings with their blogs. Because of this, seniors are much freer to say exactly what they want to say. Without having to self-censor, a senior citizen’s blog may hit just the right note of blatant honesty that could really help it take off.
